Giuseppe Scelsa (Arte di Pino – Arte = Art, Pino = Giuseppe/Giuseppino/Pino, meaning ‘Art of Pino’) is an Italian born artist who has been living in Hungary for two decades and started creating art from surplus materials in 2017. His interests and creative methods are very diverse: from painting on wooden panels, sculptures made of metal scraps and wood roots found in nature, to stone carving. All forms and materials capture his imagination and he is keen to experiment with new methods. He prefers to find inspiration in the scrap heap or in materials that others have found redundant, making further use of an old utility object or a piece of scrap metal, wood or glass that he finds interesting. The subjects of the works often depict people, animals, feelings and life situations, often with a touch of humour. They personify inanimate objects that are now considered useless, seeing in them a gaze, a figure, a look or a situation. Thanks to creativity, these objects can continue to be part of our environment, now with a new function and a new form.
Giuseppe’s large Italian family is no stranger to creativity, with both of his sisters being very talented painters and several of his aunts and cousins having been involved in designing clothes from a young age. The talent seems set to continue, as Orazio, one of twin children born to his Hungarian wife, also interested in fashion and inspired by his father’s painting Encounters, launched his brand ‘Orazio’s’ in the summer of 2020. In the campaign shots for ‘Orazio’s x Arte di Pino: Endless Summer’, Orazio presents the youthful collection with his twin sister Elisa.
