KAFAFA

I am Kata Benkő, I live and work in Budapest.

As a visual artist, creation has always been important to me, painting and graphics are closely related to me to this day, but the canvas was replaced by the desire to create objects. Wearable, usable, functional products began to take shape, and then ideas began to come to fruition one after another.

I initially built my business on wood as a raw material. The brand name, KAFAFA, was born. Over time – just as a sculptor begins to carve his sculpture, shapes it, changes it along the way, and perfects it – my imaginary sculpture also began to take shape and develop. An attic also plays a role in this, which preserved the damaged, old vinyl record that gave KAFAFA a new direction. This chance encounter shaped, and built my brand further and brought the products to life. From there, I introduced vinyl records to my base materials. It is important to note that these records are damaged and unplayable, and I use and search for these to create my works. That is why I chose this “base material” to artistically help the innovative recycling of environmentally harmful plastics in a wearable, usable form, endowed with artistic value. Music lives on in us, and the record, worn on us, proclaims the protection of the environment and the love of music.
