The new life and message of iron – where the rest of the locksmith’s workshop is transformed into a work of art

Róbert Kovács – Roberto Fabbro – is a steel sculptor from Leteny, whose art is based on the reinterpretation of large-scale industrial waste. His creations are made exclusively in size between 8 and 15 cm.  His work is characterized by a wide thematic spectrum, which enables the representation of objects, crafts and symbols of everyday life, while also giving space to deeper reflections.

His workshop operates on the principle of complete self-sufficiency. It only uses fiber ends, small sheet pieces and round steels from locksmiths as raw materials. He makes all the components of the sculptures himself, down to the smallest details, from the raw waste, he does not use prefabricated fasteners (screws, washers). For the work, he only uses a CO welding machine and flex, which gives the miniature shapes a unique combination of precision and raw power.
His art is proof of sculptural ingenuity, which can display virtually any subject in the harsh reality of metal. Miniature creations are playful, iconic depictions of everyday moments, crafts and professions, or even fairy-tale characters. Through some of his selected works, he makes sensitive references to social and environmental issues: each sculpture deals with environmental pollution or refers to the modern phenomenon of excessive telephone use.
By reusing the waste, the artist also encourages the viewer to think about the true value of things and the questions that society can easily “discard”.
