I am Szimonetta Hurta, the creator of Szimonetti jewellery, an economist by profession, and a lover of handicrafts in my spare time. Since I was a teenager, jewellery has been one of my main means of self-expression, which is why I started making my own pieces as unique as possible – first for myself. Using scrap for jewellery only came years later, during university, it appealed to me and challenged me to create an aesthetic object out of something ordinary. The adage that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure became my motto as I immersed myself in the re-dreaming of household waste as fashion accessories. I have been making jewellery from recycled coffee pods for over 7 years. I use hand tools to fold the aluminium capsules and combine them with beads and other metal accessories. I love experimenting with shapes and find complementary colours next to each other wonderful. My personal favourites are earrings, but I also make pendants, necklaces and rings.
