Zsombor Péteri

I am Zsombor Péteri, 16 years old.

I got into climbing through my parents, who introduced me to climbing during a climbing course. Every summer since I was 4 years old, we have been going to the mountains to hike, climb, and do via ferrata. I was 10 years old when I first participated in a rock climbing camp.

I don’t remember exactly where the idea of making belts came from. My dad had a used climbing rope at home. I made a prototype out of it with the buckle of an old climbing backpack and started carrying it everywhere. At first, my friends noticed it, then out of an impulse I got more buckles, made a few more pieces, took pictures of them, and started advertising them in Facebook groups dedicated to climbing.

Climbing ropes get old over time and can no longer be used for climbing. On the one hand, their material is plastic, which ages even without use, and on the other hand, they are certified for a certain number of falls and after that, they are dangerous to use. The used climbing rope is no longer suitable for climbing, I give them a new life.

I make the belts, and the business, in addition to my high school studies. The production itself takes place when I come home from school and sit down in front of the sewing machine to sew.

Since the beginning, I have reused about 700 meters of rope and made belts in a total of 23 colours. I get the ropes from private individuals or climbing gyms. I created my own web shop and expanded my portfolio with dog products. Now collars and leashes are also available in the web shop.

The uniqueness of my business even caught the attention of Forbes magazine. In December 2024, they interviewed me about the history of Clmb.
